How to Figure Out the Right Learning Styles for Kids?

Learning Styles for Kids

If someone tells you that they know how to train your brain to learn, they are simply lying. Let us explain.

Even though scientific progress has been seen with a better understanding of most parts of our body, our understanding of the human brain, in general, is at quite a preliminary level. To put it into context, scientists are now able to grow a beating, new heart, or even try to put a new head on humans, but mapping out the brain and the meaning of all neuron activity is still a puzzle, for the most part.

So, apart from a few tricks that work at the level of building and storing memory, for instance the mind palace technique, most of the learning shortcuts are simply lies, or, at the least, exaggerations. So, don’t get sold to pop science and waste your time and money.

However, in terms of how matters come out in real, i.e. our styles, the understanding of human learning is a bit more concrete. To put into context, an understanding of our learning styles is far more effective, including, in terms of improving our children’s performance.

Learning Styles for Kids

In more explicit terms, understanding the learning styles for kids gives you a better understanding of the kind of environment required that encourages soaking, understanding, and expression of knowledge and learning.

And, as you can imagine, there is not a single path of figuring out the right environment for your child. At Spark Academy, in order to do so, we follow a simplified path: Finding the sweet spot where the kid is enjoying their learning journey.

The Fun Element in the Learning Journey

You may not realise this but humans are genetically curious. And, you can imagine what happens when this human curiosity is fed the right way: we have fun.

Sadly, when the topic of fun is brought up in education, most parents think of an environment that is overly ‘lenient’; one where the education facilities are simply designed to keep the kid satisfied, with little to no emphasis on real learning.

However, that is not always the case.

The right learning environment for a kid, in itself, is full of fun. However, treating fun in learning as an end result is a fallacy too.

In fact, if you treat learning and knowledge as an end-result, the journey becomes insufferable.

Therefore, it is important to draw a journey map for your child and figure out what wakes up that curiosity in your child. And, this is exactly what we do for your kids at Spark Academy: we place your kids within the right styles of learning.

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Spark. Tuesday is News-day and this week’s article ‘Spectacular New Spark HQ’ is your anticipated update on the build at Spark Academy’s HQ in Melton Road…

Spectacular New Spark HQ

The new building at Spark Academy’s Headquarters in Melton Road is close to completion and owner Mital Thanki is excited to share.

The building work at Spark Academy’s Belgrave site has progressed greatly since it was last reported on in Spark’s blog ‘Spark Ideas’. There have been several exciting developments in the last few weeks.

Completing the Outside

The building crew faced a large challenge in the weather. The bad weather at the end of July, as well as during August and September, meant the crew had to wait to put the roof on the new extension. The roof and windows went in at the beginning of October. The builders reported that they were very happy about no longing working outside as the days grow colder.

The new building will also be much bigger than before. A two-storey extension was added to the back of the building, which is a huge undertaking. This will allow Spark Academy’s teachers and students room to express themselves and experience their educational journey.

An Inside Job

Once the roof and windows were fitted, work began on the inside of the building. One major job that has began recently is fitting the electrics inside the building. The large building has a lot of wiring and complex electrical work to be completed before it is ready to use.

As soon as the electrician completes the job, work can begin on decorating and furnishing the new building. This is the part of the job Mital is particularly looking forward to. The new building will reflect all of Spark’s key values. It will be spacious, inviting and calming. This will allow students to learn in a productive community environment.

When will it be ready?

Mital is hoping that the building will be ready for the teaching and admin team to move in by December. This means that it is on track for Spark to begin offering lessons in the new building in the new year. Mital believes firmly that the new year and new term will signal the beginning of a new golden age for Spark.

The whole team is excited to see the new building soon.

What’s happening at the Belgrave build?

Many of you might be wondering what’s happening at our Belgrave branch at the moment. When you left at the end of the summer term, our supremely capable construction team had already started knocking down the old to make way for the new. They’re literally helping to build a new future for Spark.

How is the building changing?

This expansion is helping Spark to go up in the world – quite literally as for the first time we’ll have a second storey extension! The upstairs will house one of our impressive state of the art classrooms and represents all the values that Spark encompasses. Furthermore, the new building will showcase our desire for a modern approach to tuition and our belief in providing a positive environment to work and study in. Belgrave is about to become a community hub of learning. It will provide our students and parents with a space to learn, laugh and really make the most of their time with us. In addition, the benefits of the centre will extend to the staff as well as students. For example, there will be fabulous new office spaces for Mital and Nidhi, and a zen garden to keep us grounded and relaxed.

What are we looking forward to?

Nic is most looking forward to creating a green space on Melton Road for relaxation. She is excited to introduce an eco-friendly vibe to the centre too. Nidhi is not just excited about the bigger kitchen, but also the brighter reception space. Our brighter entrance will definitely match her role as Chief Happiness Operator!

Chris can’t wait to hold his Year 12 and 13 classes in our specially designed upper-level A-level space. Mital is anticipating her personalised new office. Soon she’ll have somewhere to hold the meetings, make the phone calls and continue her tireless effects to develop Spark.

I could go on to describe how we’re reducing Spark’s carbon footprints with LED lights and recycling areas. It would be easy to talk about building a space full of natural light with more windows. I could also mention the set of French doors out to our zen garden. Or I might talk for hours about our vision for the new décor inside. I think you understand our excitement!

So… when are you moving in?

We haven’t got an official move in date yet. Although the build has taken slightly longer than we thought, it won’t be long before Spark is back on Melton Road where it belongs. As the saying goes ‘good things come to those who wait…
